The Fellowship of St. Alban and St Sergius was founded in 1927 with the object of furthering understanding between the Eastern Orthodox Churches and the Anglican Church. Throughout its existence it has numbered outstanding priests, theologians, writers and icon painters among its Officers and Membership.A Conference is held each year with speakers and visitors from a variety of backgrounds - for example at the peaceful Aylesford Priory near Maidstone on the theme of The Cross. Worship plays a very important part in the conference. There is also an annual pilgrimage to St Albans Abbey for an Orthodox liturgy, and a visit to the shrine of Saint Alban; and the London Branch organise a devotional Talk for Lent given alternately by Orthodox and Western Christians, and various other meetings.
About the London BranchThe Branch was launched in 1998 to serve the aims of the Fellowship and organise activities in the capital - for which there had been no provision since the removal of the Fellowship's headquarters from Ladbroke Grove to Oxford earlier in the decade. This year, 2008, we celebrate our 10th Anniversary. We organise several talks each year, normally on weekday evenings, at an Orthodox or Anglican church in central London, following a church service. Occasional outings are arranged (hitherto always on a Saturday), for example to a monastery for a day retreat. The Branch's newsletters, three times a year, keep members informed of forthcoming Branch events. They also give: details of national Fellowship events and some other events in London likely to be of interest to our members; Reports on talks given and on recent conferences, pilgrimages and outings; Book reviews and information on libraries holding books and journals on Orthodoxy and ecumenism; A list of London churches where an Orthodox Liturgy is served in English; and other Articles relevant to the promotion of understanding between Christians of Eastern and Western traditions
